Drafting - PC\|MAC

Pre-Class for Tuesday 9-313 Define the word drafting (and no, it has nothing to do with NASCAR or IndyCar). Drafting Also known as: Technical Drawing Mechanical Drawing Definition Defined as the study and practice, especially as a

subject taught in school, of the basic techniques of draftsmanship, as employed in mechanical drawing and architecture. Mechanical drawing is the drafting, as of machinery, done with the aid of rulers, scales, compasses, etc. Basic Materials Pencil Specially lined paper (oblique, isometric, engineering, graph, etc.) Straight edge (ruler, tri-scale, etc.) Protractor (or other curvature device)

Mathematical compass (or other circle making device) T-square (or other optional equipment) Block Lettering

Form uppercase Gothic letters and numerals- vertical style. Write: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Write the current date using numbers only. It should include the month, day, and year. Compose a sentence which tells me about what you did over the summer break from school or this past weekend (about 15 words). Scale down to fit on one row of engineering paper, one letter or number per block. Pre-Class Wednesday 9+4=13

Fill in the blanks: Drafting is also known as _________ _______. (There are two possible answers) Drafting Pencil Lead Types

H: hardness B: black F: firm B is a softer lead, so darker (6B is darker Bor Bs) H is a harder lead, so lighter (4H is lighter than Hmore Hs) However, there is no set standard yet, so results may vary.

Draw four lines, one from each corner of the square which also pass through the vanishing point. Draw a square somewhere beneath the horizon. This will be the front of your box To complete the box, draw in the back vertical and an horizontal Clear out the scaffolding

and Now, lets try 2 vanishing points 1) 2) 3) 4) Draw the bottom box only.

5) Put two vanishing points at opposite ends of the horizontal line. Draw in the front vertical of the box. Drawing the line below the horizontal will create a view which we are looking down on. To look at the object from below, draw the front vertical above the horizontal.

Draw lines from the top of the vertical which disappear back to both of the vanishing points. Repeat the process for the bottom of the line. To complete both of the sides by drawing in the back verticals. To draw the top of the box, draw lines from the back verticals to the opposite vanishing points. Making a 2D image of a 3D object look more realistic Procedures

Pull out your isometric drawings of the shapes to the right. Choose two of them to give some perspective (1 vanishing point). Draft both them. Draft the other two giving them more perspective (2 vanishing points). Use a straight edge and be

sure to erase all scaffolding lines. Zoom Create a 3-D castle, similar to what weve been drafting. It must have 4 complete walls with a battlement or turret at each of the 4 corners. Hint: You have to actually draw this, so do not make it too complicated. Draw the castle with two vanishing points, once with the points far away from each other, and once with the points closer to each other.

Notice: B is equivalent to all the others. Fold lines can give a better understanding of size and proportion. If drawn properly, you can make a projection box of your orthographic.

Rolling along with Drafting Objective: combining isometric, orthographic, and projections Materials

Isometric paper Rolling cube Procedures Complete the orthographic shown

Construct an isometric for each Design a projection box (foldable) of a rolling cube Pre-Class 1-28-13 Monday Write: Start performance test. (Yes, you still need to write in block letteringalmost done!) CastleGuard (Drafting Performance Test)

Objective Design and construct a castle game board Match perspective drafts to actual castle

Materials Castle drafts Rolling cubes Manilla folder Card stock

Straight edges Scissors/X-acto knives Tape Making a test into a game

Construct your castle to scale from manilla folder. Design the game board to attach and run along the top of the inside walls of the castle. Mark out spaces along the board, at least 4 or 5 per side. Provide a staircase that gives the game token the ability to travel up and then down (making one

complete circuit around the castle wall) Making a game into a test Deliverables

Objective Background

Making a safety and evacuation plan for BJHS There is a plan for exiting the building in emergencies. To know the plan, you need to look at the posted signs on doors and walls. Due to other issues, they need to be redone and improved. Procedures Make a plan for retrieving the information you need. Construct a new set of signs for emergency

Cashier Registered nurse Food prep Office assistant Note: the other three on this list round out the top ten. Pre-Class 1-30-2013 Wednesday

In memory of block lettering (this is the last day you have to use it), write the word: BLOCKLETTERING in blocklettering. Schedule note: we will have homeroom immediately after 1st block today.

Pre-Class 1-31-13 Thursday In the Drafting Performance Test, what was the biggest challenge? Explain. Review for test Definition of drafting Definition of mechanical drawing What is a t-square? Isometric paper? Block lettering, block numbering Three Angle Orthographic Views of an Isometric Object
